Weddington Way: October Style Challenge

Sarah and I are lucky when we get a chance to be on the same side of the country once or twice a year. These past six months, we’ve been just spoiled with the amount of sister time we’ve been able to spend together. Most recently, we were reunited earlier this month to celebrate the wedding of our cousin, Colby, and we were both honored to stand by her side as bridesmaids! Her wedding day was picture perfect, and the bride couldn’t have been more stunning. Here are a few of our favorite sister moments from the weekend:

The wedding got us thinking about our own personal styles for our “big day”. I mean, what girl doesn’t dream about her wedding day – or at least make a board about it on Pinterest? That’s how we came across the October Style Challenge for Weddington Way. If you don’t know about the website already, Weddington Way makes planning a bridal party look effortless by curating the top trends and designers on an easy-to-use site.

For the challenge, we were asked to style a head-to-toe bridesmaid/Maid of Honor look, which was perfect timing for us! We began by taking the bridal questionnaire to gauge what style fit our personalities best by answering questions like “structured or flowy” and “what words describe your dream wedding”.

After our showrooms were created, we picked our favorite dresses and created Maid of Honor looks for each other. Yes, when you have a sister, you also get a built-in Maid of Honor for your wedding. And we wouldn’t want it any other way!

Emmy/West Coast Wedding

The words that stood out to me most on the questionnaire were “romantic” and “garden”. Living on the West Coast, there is an endless list of outdoor destinations I wouldn’t mind having my future wedding at. The location that inspired my head-to-toe look was this gorgeous Big Sur ceremony overlooking both the Redwoods and the Pacific Ocean. The style I chose was both romantic and feminine that paired perfectly with bohemian decorations, like a flower crown and Flash Tattoos.

Dress: Jim Hjelm Style Chiffon/Color 5414 (Sage)

1. A simple flower crown complementing a loose up-do. I couldn’t find a link to purchase the pictured crown, but something like this from Etsy is just as lovely.

2. Dusty rose lip color from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics with a matte finish, and for an added bonus, it’s 100% Vegan, helping me and Mother Nature.

3. Forego the statement jewelry for Flash Tattoos, which are metallic temporary tattoos with unique designs, including this Lena set. And for $20, you can cover your whole bridal party!

4. Neutral shoe with a touch of bling. These are Vera Wang Lavender label, which are sadly sold out, but I love this alternative from Steve Madden.

Bouquet: I know I have always wanted anemones and peonies in my bouquet, and this amazing bouquet from a Gatsby New Year’s wedding perfectly tied the look together.

Sarah/East Coast Wedding

Classic and romantic is the vibe I was going for after completing my questionnaire. I am already a huge fan of designer Lela Rose, and mostly everyone knows that purple is my absolute favorite color, so this style was perfect for my dream wedding day. This elegant shape is a perfect canvas for modern accessories, like crystal drop earrings and killer laser-cut sandals.

Dress: Lela Rose Style LR207 (Color: Suede Rose)

1. A beautifully crafted sash from BHLDN with delicate flowers adorned with sparkling crystals adds an extra special touch.

2. I love a great lip color, and this easy-wear vibrant shade from Revlon is my everyday (and wedding day) go-to.

3. These neutral Klub Nico sandals have an Art Nouveau vibe to them that still reads really modern.

4. Crystal drop earrings from BaubleBar keeps a simple style with a serious dosage of sparkle.

Bouquet: The perfect blend of purples and pinks featuring my favorite flower, stargazer lillies.

We hope you enjoyed our Weddington Way styles!

Pumped-Up Kicks

I thought the title was appropriate with Foster the People playing at Coachella this year. With concerts running from morning until midnight, I want to be able to walk the festival grounds all day without my feet becoming a sunburned, blistery mess. Fashion sneakers are the perfect way to keep things casual, but still fun and fashionable. I would pair any of these with denim cutoffs and a band tee. I’m going to pick up more than a few pairs at Urban Outfitter’s Spring Mix Sale – all shoes are 25% off (including those cute laser-cut Jeffrey Campbell sneaks)!

Which fashion sneakers would you wear at Coachella?

Leather is Better

Coachella isn’t just for the boho-vintage-hippie-flowery kings and queens. We’re talking about one of the biggest music festivals on the West Coast! With performances from HAIM, Queens of the Stone Age, Foster the People, Bastille, and CHVRCHES in the line-up, you need an outfit that will play up your inner rock groupee. This mix of summer leather pieces lend an edgy, sexy vibe to a flowy maxi skirt, or highlight a bold print for an all-out rocker look.

What are your favorite summer leather pieces?

Boho Bottoms

maxi 1/2/3/4/5/6

What better way to frolic around the festival grounds than in these beautiful bohemian bottoms? I love keeping my tops simple (a.k.a. a solid bikini/crop top), so I really want to have a fun print in a maxi skirt or pant to stand out. All of these printshave a tribal-floral feel going on, which make for the perfect festival fashions. Plus, I can wear any of these pieces well into summer with a lacy tank or graphic tee.

Which prints will you be rocking this festival season?

Play with Playsuits

Rompers, playsuits, jumpers – whatever you want to call them – are the hottest essential for Coachella this year. I always feel so at ease in a one-piece, and it gives me more freedom to pile on the accessories. Even when the sun goes down, I can just throw on a long-sleeve tee and keep rockin’.

Cheers to the Graduate!

That familiar feeling is in the air – the call of college Winter break.  Another semester come and gone, and the promise of a fresh start in the impending New Year.

This Winter break will be a little different, signaling not only the end of a school year, but school altogether as Sarah prepares to graduate next month!

My baby sister has been slammed with the papers, projects, and exams that come in the home stretch, so I am honored to share some of her beautiful senior pictures. She just finished taking these this past weekend with her best friend and photographer, Sydney, and they completely capture her beautiful inner light.

I am so proud of all that this lady has accomplished in the brief time she has been a Ram. She rose to the top of her class in Fashion Merchandising (and was hand-picked as one of the handful to meet Tim Gunn during a college visit), and plans to use her new degree to land a job at one of her favorite foamy companies.

Sarah is such a hard-working individual, and I completely believe she can achieve anything she sets her mind to. I just hope one day her aspirations will bring her to me on the West coast! Or we’ll make our own adventure in a new state. Is from VA2CA2HI too much?

It may be a month early, but congrats, seester! I love you so much.

NYFW Trends to Try for Fall

Even though social media feeds are teeming with pictures from London, I am still stuck on the sights and sounds of New York Fashion Week, showcasing the collections for Spring/Summer 2014. Yes, all of this eye candy, and it’s not even available until next year!

But I spied some trends that I just couldn’t wait until the New Year to try, so here are some highlights from some of my favorite shows, and how to incorporate them into your wardrobe for fall.

Beauty Trend | Nicole Miller:

The Nicole Miller S/S 14 Show was a Romantic Gothic dream with pieces inspired by the beauty of Versailles. The bold patterns, stained-glass prints, and glittery du jour were the perfect ingredients for a luxe holiday in France. But the pièce de résistance – in my opinion – was the beauty look. The perfect balance of bold and feminine, the NM girls rocked a barely there coral eye, rich plum lip, and wraparound crown braids.

How-to for Fall:

With rich olives and burgundies already on the trend list, a plum lip isn’t too far from the fall color palette. One of my fave West coast bloggers, Gal Meets Glam, recently perfected her own plum lip with a purple stain under a golden-pink gloss coat. I can’t wait to give this a go with an olive pant and easy neutral pullover.

Fashion Trend | J. Crew

With bright hues and killer prints, J. Crew took a cue from the West Coast and revivied a seriously cool version of the “Aloha” print. Always a fun mix of casual and classic, J. Crew gave their audiences a wholly helping of outfit inspiration by juxtaposing crisp whites and clean lines alongside bold graphic elements. The California girl in me was oohing and aahing over pieces like a stylized tsunami sweatshirt and bright matchy-matchy separates. One silhoutte I’m hoping to mimic in my wardrobe this fall is the full skirt and tucked in graphic tee {right}.

How-to for Fall:

Any easy wearing sweatshirt or pullover will do, but I’m seeing some seriously creative ways up the ante for fall. You can go simple with a graphic tee (loving the selection from Lovers+Friends) and blazer combo tucked into a fuller skirt paired with a ballet flat, or go fun and play up your sporty side like this fashionista captured by Refinery29. It’s all about accessories with this one, so don’t be afraid to add some serious glam!

Pinspired: That’s Beachin’

{click the image or here to go to our Pinterest page}

We read somewhere that Pinterest is the girl’s perfect video game. And, seriously, what did we do before the days of boards and pins?

With two personalities encompassing one Pinterest page, we have some boards that are a little more Sarah and others a little more Emmy. But the one board that is equal parts sister is our That’s Beachin’ board – dedicated to all things salty.

And since we refuse to admit that any season comes after summer, our board will have you daydreaming of palm trees and perfect waves. Hopefully you can get your bums in the sand this weekend, or at least get a little extra relaxation during the long weekend.

Enjoy, and follow us! Xx, E&S
